Protected Box Homes
Each of the "Protected Box Homes" portrays a house shielded by an outer layer. This exterior casing is a metaphor for our natural human instinct to protect what is dearest to us, often embodied by our homes. The houses remain closed boxes, maintaining their mystery and allure, but the added layer calls attention to our intrinsic desire to safeguard our intimate spaces, our personal beliefs, our unique identities, and our cherished memories.
The protective layer is not a barricade, however, but rather a semi-transparent veil. It acknowledges the permeability between our inner selves and the external world, our need to interact with and learn from our surroundings, even as we strive to guard our core.
This added complexity in the "Protected Box Homes" series further encourages introspection. Each viewer is compelled to question what they protect in their own lives, and why.
The images in this series serve as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, as well as the balance we strike between self-preservation and openness to the world. Like the homes that appear to dissolve into a geometric mist in my previous series, "Box Homes", these protected homes, too, signify the transient nature of our perceptions and realities, the inevitability of change, and the unending journey of growth.
